importing files on desktop

I have photos in a folder on my desktop, but FCP won't recognize anything on my desktop when I try to import media. I see "desktop" in the dropdown, but it looks as if nothing is there. Why won't it recognize the desktop to import the media that is there?

Two things:

a) Make sure that Final Cut Pro has "Full Disk Access" in System Preferences->Security & Privacy->Privacy

b) [And I think this is it...] If you have enabled "Documents and Desktop in iCloud"... FCP can only import files that are stored locally in your drives, and not in icloud or other cloud services.

Either turn off Documents and Desktop in iCloud, or put the files you want to import in a folder that is local to your mac - e.g. the Pictures or Movies folder.
