Weird light artifacts with the iphone pro max 12 photos

I just upgraded from an iPhone 6+ to the 12 pro max mainly for the camera quality. I love the overall quality of the camera on the new 12 pro max however I am getting some odd lighting artifacts that I do not get on any of my other cameras or my old 6+ particularly when photographing Christmas lights. Is this a fault with my unit? Or is it general problem with the iPhone 12 pro max? You can see what I am talking about on the right side in the doorway of the first image and on the side of the cabinet in the second one.
