macbook air won't turn on

My 2018 Macbook air simply wouldn't charge, the USB-C ports stopped working, first the back left one, and now the second one too. All within a matter of hours. Now the laptop is dead and wont turn on. Apple wants 400+ for a mail in repair!


I tried SMC and NVRAM reset - no help. I showed the apple rep this article: https://9to5mac.com/2019/06/30/macbook-air-logic-board-issue-power-apple/ but they said my model is not covered


I recently updated to Big Sur MacOS 11.0.1


Any ideas? or just junk it and get a new laptop?

Actually after several hours and probably 10+ SMC reset and NVRAM resets I was about to write it off, when I left it plugged in for several hours.


It started up much to my surprise into "Safe Mode" - I let it charge to 100% (before the charging symbol wasn't showing even though plugged in). From there I went to recovery and just did a clean install of big sur.


All is well - for now!
