“Tap to click” issues on new MacBook Pro M1

I recently purchased the new MacBook Pro M1 and under system preferences, the option “Tap to click” was checked but sometimes it does not work. I replaced my macbook pro m1 with a new macbook pro m1 thinking that the it would solve the problem since i thought that the first one given to me was defective but it turns out that the replacement macbook pro m1 has the same issue so i’m guessing that maybe i just wasn’t setting it right. Can someone help me please? It’s so annoying when the “tap to click” function on the trackpad does not work from time to time. Thank you!

Hi, Mezcal_28!

Congratulations on your new MacBook Pro! We understand that you are experiencing some issues with the trackpad on the computer and would be happy to help.

Based on what you've described, we recommend using the steps outlined in the Apple Support article If your pointer is jumpy when you use a trackpad, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse - Apple Support.

Don't hesitate to respond back if you still need help after that.

Have a great day!

Hi, I am having a similar issue with my M1 MacBook Pro. My Tap to Click doesn't seem to work whenever I hold down a key on the keyboard. It specifically affects the top 1/3 of the trackpad. For example, if I pressed Command and tapped on the trackpad, it won't work. I've spoken to Apple support about this and they are sending me a replacement. I will report back if the issue is fixed on the new machine.

I'm having a similar issue on my new M1 MacBook Pro. The top half of my trackpad isn't responsive after pressing a key on the keyboard. For example, if I wanted to open a link in a new tab in Safari, I'd hold Command + tap. If I tapped anywhere on the top half of my trackpad, it won't register and nothing happens. Command + tap anywhere else on the trackpad works fine though. I'd like to point out that the trackpad only becomes unresponsive AFTER pressing a key. Tapping the top half of the trackpad by itself is working fine. Anyone else have such an issue?
