iPhone 12 Pro Max RAW photos not rendering in Photos app macOS 13

RAW photos taken on my iPhone 12 Pro Max are not rendering in the Photos app on my iMac (macOS 13 High Sierra). The HEIC photos render fine (as the attached screenshot shows - RAW images above and HEIC below). And the RAW photos actually render fine in Capture One and I'm able to edit them there. So I have to go through the tedious process of exporting from Photos then importing into Capture One whereas I would normally just export the particular photos I want to edit in Capture One. Is there a fix for this?

It is most likely just a compatibility problem between new raw files, and old photos a...

If so, the only workaround I can suggest is to use the ADOBE DNG converter to convert to an earlier version of DNG. I think that is possible.

Thanks for the response. I'll have a look at using Adobe DNG converter and see how it turns out. You would thing that Apple would ensure that Photos app would be able to handle the new RAW files. Capture One on the same computer has no problem with them. Maybe I'll send Apple feedback.

Hi. I had a sneaking suspicion that might have something to do with it. But what is a bit irksome is that Capture One on the same Mac has no problem with the raw files. Apple still releases security updates for macOS 13 so one would have thought that keeping the photos app compatible is something they’d be on top of especially as they push iCloud photos so much. I’m waiting to upgrade to the Apple silicon iMac, whenever that shows up.

Yes, you'd think.

I'm sort of in the same boat. Although I can use the raw photos I can't use the deep fusion features of them, because I am still on Catalina. And I'm waiting for big sur bugs to be ironed out (of which there seems to be many) before upgrading.

Hi - you are using a version of Macos three generations out of date. And the photos app is not separately updated - it is part of the OS, so your photos app is also three generations out of date.
