Sharing iCloud with Family

Hi,

I am the owner of our iCloud extended storage plan. I have shared this with my immediate family, but I am unsure how they can access this storage.

It would be nice if they could see our family drive in the finder side bar. However they can only see there individual free account folders.

It's also very useful for us to share files as a family!

Can anyone help guide me on how to set this up?

Many Thanks!

There is no Family Drive for them to see. The Shared Storage is accessible by each of their accounts independently. In other words they will all see the entire purchased storage size, but you don't get a shared folder.

They can verify the storage has been increased by going into System Preferences->iCloud on their Macs, or Settings->Account (top of Settings)->iCloud on their iOS devices.

If you want to share files you can set up a shared folder they can all access. See here: link-> Share folders with iCloud Drive - Apple Support

It looks like you must have Catalina to share an iCloud folder?

At the moment I just have High Sierra on my aging iMac.

Is there a work around?

Thanks

Yes, you can do so from the iCloud website as explained in the same support document, or even a Windows PC. Catalina is required only if you want to do it directly from within Finder.

Thanks for the help, however it looks like I've done all the steps from my side. It says that I'm sharing with my family and lists them.

However it may be an issue at there end..

How do they access the iCloud drive?

Or maybe I re-phrase the question..

Will my shared drive appear as a separate include drive in addition to there drive

or

will there iCloud drive capacity me augmented by the capacity of the family drive

If it's the second then that kind of sucks because you can't leave files that are accessible to all family members..

Thanks Again!
