Purchased for my Mac Air, installed completely and does not work due to incompatibility

Logic Pro 9 works on OS X 10.11.6, albeit with a couple of glitches. I've been using it regularly just until a few weeks ago on a MacBook Pro 2012 and a MacBook Pro 2008 (!), both running El Capitan. Just make sure to…

  • Install all updates up to v9.1.8
  • If you're using Spaces (i.e. multiple desktops), make sure to run Logic in Desktop #1 only. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you're likely not using Spaces. :)
  • Save early, save often! Also, increase the number of auto backup files. I keep 30.
  • Backup, backup, backup. Time Machine is your friend!
  • Can sometimes crash when switching saved screensets via keyboard shortcuts, so always save before switching. The file will then be marked as "crashed" but it shouldn't become corrupted, so simply remove the "crashed" from its file name and relaunch Logic.
  • If you're working with multitrack audio files, use an external disk for recording and mixing.

Forgot one more bullet point:

  • To avoid overly large file sizes in the Project File Backups folder, you may want to select Edit > Delete Undo History everytime before you save a file. Depending on the Number Of Undo Steps value in Preferences > General > Editing, and on the kind of edits you're performing, the size of a single project file can grow up to several dozens, perhaps even hundreds of MB. Whereas the "compressed" project file size usually won't exceed a few MB, depending on project's complexity.
