MacBook Air M1, trackpad lost haptic click

Hi all, on December 23 I used my macbook air M1 as usual, I left the house and when I got back I went back to the computer (I left it on with the screen off).

Suddenly the trackpad no longer worked properly.

The pointer worked well but the haptic click no longer worked, meaning I could click by tapping the trackpad with finger (having enabled the function)

In the system preferences if everything was fine, I tried to reboot several times, but nothing has changed.

I noticed early on that the click didn't even work on immediate reboot.

Trying to enter recovery mode, however, the click did not work.

I called apple assistance, I was there for about 50 minutes doing several tests (many I must say useless) and the assistant concluded that the last solution could be the reinstallation of the system (but I insisted that the problem was a little had to do with software).

I closed the call and tried to reinstall (using an external mouse).

The installation almost finished, but when asked to set up a new user, I ran into problems. Whichever setting I chose, the system would freeze for about 30-60 seconds, and then tell me that it was not possible to create that user (obviously I used simple names and equally simple passwords, including those used up to a few hours before).

I turned off, resigning myself to the idea of sending the macbook for assistance.

The next morning, for the sake of scruple, I turned the macbook back on and incredibly the trackpad started working perfectly again (I'm using it to write this post)

I am really perplexed.

If this happens again you can use the steps here on How to reset the SMC of your Mac

We hope this helps.
