I have an iPhone 5 it won’t take the latest update which I need to pair with the Apple Watch I just got how do I get it to update

Updating my phone How do I force update my phone? I have the iPhone 6 Plus and it's only updated to 12.5.5, I got it from a family member so it hasn't been updated in a while and it doesn't allow me the option to update through the phone. I need to update it so I can connect my phone to my new apple watch.

You cannot an iphone 5 will only update to ios 10 maximum.
