There are many passcodes or pins or passwords. The most common are:

SIM card PIN:--> ask your carrier, they should have your PIN & PUK codes.

Passcode to lock/unlock your devices screen:--> If you forgot the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled

Apple ID password:--> If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support

Nope did not set a password had already put my email address went to get a pen when came back it, the screen had change requesting a password. So no password was set, but did try generic passwords (1234 and/or 0000) and did not work I did try the password that I was going to use but did not wo. I logged on to iTunes, but nothing, so I guess I will just take it back to place of purchase and get another one and let them deal with it, Thanks to you all for your attempts to help. but if anyone has a suggestion before I take it back all your help is greatly appreciated. Once again thanks,

You don’t actually seem to know what the issue is do you.

You have said passcode and password; which is two very different things.

A passcode is generally a 4/6 digit code which is unique to that device for unlocking

A password will be more secure and something you use on multiple device such as the password which goes with your email to log into the App Store.

You have said it’s asking for a passcode and passwords. So which is it?

Its impossible to help with such vague info

Mine is the same. It’s asking for a passcode when I’m transferring my daughters phone over. It’s never asked this before and I was on the phone to Apple

for 2 hours yesterday. It seems that they don’t know either and there is potentially an ongoing issue with their server that is affecting iCloud services. Iv managed to transfer the phone but a lot of her services are not working due to being unable to sign into her iCloud correctly. I really hope they get this sorted soon as never had problems like this before. Some people have said it could be a passcode that they used many years ago on another device so if you can remember that then you may be able to sort it.

Ok it is asking for a passcode. Like I have said, Tried the generic passcodes 1234 and 0000, but nothing happens, but now lets go back to the beginning when first turned on. Went thru the steps inputted my the info that it was asking for got to the part to add password/passcode which ever it is, went to get a pen and paper to write password before inputting it, when got back screen asking for passcode So, why would it ask for a passcode if I never added one. So never added a password and/or password. Any resolution would be great in case something like this happens to some one else. Thanks for any help you can give. It would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, did not set a passcode, went to get a pen and paper to write down passcode/password at the add a passcode/password screen, when got back screen, Enter Passcode iPad requires your passcode after restarting, which by the way never restarted the iPad. Like I have said before it's a new iPad. I was going thru the steps to set it up for use.

malopr,

What happened to you is beyond my knowledge and experiences. A new device CANNOT have a passcode already automatically set.

That said, I don't want to evade your curiosity (also because I honestly don't know how to answer your "why"), but, in my view of the problem, perhaps it is more important to be able to continue with the configuration of your new iPad. If you don't agree, I have no way of offering you any further help.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Giulio

the problem has been solved, but first: The iPad is new, did not set a passcode/password, but I returned it to place of purchase got a refund so, let the store and/or apple worry about it, Thank you all who tried to help, we tried but unable to come with a solution, the best solution was to return it since it is brand new. Be safe and take care of yourselves.
