Hey there mikefromoakmont,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand that your device is warm after setting up your new iPhone and transferring your data from an old device to a new device. We're happy to provide some assistance.

We recommend checking out this helpful article under the "Your device might get warm" section:

Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures

As outlined in that section, your device might get warm "When you set up your device the first time" and "When you restore from a backup".

If you continue to experience issues, please reach out to us here: Get Support

We hope this helps.

Have a great day!
