Caps lock is typing in foreign characters.

I just got the ipad air 4 yesterday and also the magic key board. When I use the caps lock, the letters are in foreign characters. The shift key doesn’t do this but only the caps lock. I don’t know if it is the ipad or the magic keyboard that is the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
