Photos cross-syncs with my wife's account

After both of us updating to Big Sur, some of my photos appeared in her Photos app (computer, phone). We have our separate Apple IDs of course. We have Family Sharing where Location and Purchases are shared.

Why did this happen and how can it be prevented form happening again?

As long as neither of you have signed in on any device using the others apple ID, then the only photos which should transfer would be those in the family album. Are you sure they haven't been put in there?

If you are sure they are not in the family album, and apple id's haven't been inadvertently shared on devices (it would be esasy to do while updating two devices, especially if you were updating her device) then somthing has gone wrong, and I'd suggest contacting apple support to get more info.
