Why can't I leave my "Family" when I'm the only one?

I'm having difficulty leaving or stopping family sharing when I'm the only one in the family...I get a message that says there are other members and I can't "Stop Family Sharing"...I had an Apple ID deleted by Apple cause it was entered in error. That Apple ID I created in error no longer shows up in my family. Now I want to leave this "Family" and join my wife's family, with all the correct Apple IDs. How do I leave "My Family" when I"m the only one left?

Have you tried disbanding the family?

I can't. If on my iphone, I try to "Stop Family Sharing"....a message comes up that there are other members...when there are not.

If on my Mac, after selecting "Stop Family Sharing"...it stays in processing and the sprocket symbol while processing continues with no outcome or verification that anything was complete...
