HOW DO I TURN OFF this low data feature? Mine keeps returning by itself.

Since 11.1 this feature turns itself on and every time I turn it off, it eventually returns to on. I hate this. If this is supposed to be some convenience, IT IS NOT HELPFUL. I use WiFi for my iPhone 99.99% of the time, and I have GB (1,000 MB) internet service.

I keep setting: Cellular Data Options > Low Data Mode OFF (slide left) which seems to stay off

and Wi-Fi > ( myNetwork) > Low Data Mode OFF (slide left) but it keeps turning itself back on somehow.

I get prompted about the Low Data Mode every time I download an app from the AppStore.

Rebooting the phone, the option automatically appears ON again.

iPhone 8, iOS 14

Clearly you do not understand what I am asking when you say "Sounds like you do have it set up correctly ...".

I am asking how to TURN IT OFF AND KEEP IT OFF.

I have multiple networks and none of the other networks have this problem. The feature automatically turns on, even when configured off.

Use case:

Login. Use network. See that Low Data mode is turned on. Turn Low data mode off. Continue to use network. Find that Bug Sur has automatically turned Low Data mode back on, despite user turning it off.

Since, I have resolved the problem in Big Sur as follows.

SOLVED:

Disconnect from the problematic network. Reconfigure the network to exclude Low Data mode. Then reconnect.

Now, when the connection is made, the correct mode will be applied. This appears to be a configuration bug, or bad design decision, to force network settings to remain in effect while a network connection exists. Changes to the network settings are transient while the network is in use. Persistent changes to the network configuration must be made while the network is not in use. Disconnect; change; reconnect.

Hello JohnTheSavage,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand wanting to control the data usage on your iPhone. Sounds like you do have it set up correctly from what you are describing.

Do you connect to more than just your home network? If so, do you have that same feature turned off for the other networks as well? See Use Low Data Mode on your iPhone and iPad for more information.

Reach back out if we can help further.

Take care!
