My NFC doesn’t work

I bought an iPhone 11 Pro Max recently and when I tried to pay by NFC it didn’t even recognize.

I researched online and it says that the iPhone 11 series has an always on NFC. I thought that is why I couldn’t find the option to turn NFC on/off.

I researched more and I came across an article which hinted about a NFC tag reader. I don’t see anywhere the NFC tag reader - not in my Settings nor in my Control Center.

So the question is what do I have to do in order for NFC to work?
