Fitness Plus keeps pausing and disconnecting
I have now experienced Apple fitness plus disconnecting/pausing/stopping a workout in the middle. I am only about 4 feet from my Apple TV. What can I be doing wrong?

I too have the above issue. I have noticed that it seems to happen less frequently when I'm not using my Airpod Pros (hearing the AppleTV over the whoosh of my Concept2 rower is a challenge). I *LOVE* Fitness Plus and it has started to become a staple in my workouts. HOWEVER, I will be moving on if these connectivity issues persist. One request, and it is a significant one... At least allow me to restart and fast forward a workout in-progress. To have a 20 minute workout disconnect at 12 minutes, without the ability to restart where it disconnected, is a CRIME!
I believe Apple Fitness is the problem. I regularly run with my Apple Watch, iPhone and AirPods. While running my arm is typically covered with a jacket, yet everything stays connected (1 to 2 hours). However, if I’m 12 inches away from my phone doing Yoga in a tank top with no air prods or Apple TV ... Apple Fitness cannot stay connected for 5 minutes and constantly drops. It’s interesting too how it always stops at 5 minutes or 3 minutes. It’s always rounded, like it’s on a timer.
Hi,
It happened to me today again, I talk to apple support 2 weeks ago they have no idea what was going on , opened a case and so far no response, the worst thing you have to start again doesn’t same where you left, frustrado😒😒
I’ve switched my audio output from my AirPod Pros to my SONOS 5 and it works mostly without an issue. Clearly something going on with the AirPod Pros.
Fitness+ works better with SONOS than Apple’s own product. 🥳
Lots of comments about AirPods which is really interesting.
im not using any ear pieces though. I’m using an Apple TV so the problem is really frustrating.
I’m sure Apple are working on a fix but I’m still paying a monthly fee for something that is becoming unreliable. Yesterday fitness+ wouldn’t work at all.
I really want it to work because it’s fantastic!!!!
Same thing happens to me. Apple Watch connected to my Apple TV and sound coming through my Apple home pod. Never had any interference or connection issues within my home network and I’m only 3 feet from both Apple TV and HomePod.
All suggestions in this thread don’t stop it happening and to make matters worse I can’t resume the workout from the point it disconnected. It makes the whole workout app useless. Thank goodness it’s my trial month. I won’t be subscribing. Hey Apple, whatever happens to “It just works!”
I see that this is marked as solved, but I wanted to chime in, too.
This happens to me when I'm using my iPhone, with ZERO audio devices or AppleTV. Just my phone playing the video. Dies around the 15 minute mark and pretends it doesn't know what Apple Fitness is for a while. It shows "generic" workouts and the Fitness+ tab just spins as another poster showed with a screenshot. Eventually, it kicks back in, then "signs" me in (as I go from "Try it" to "Let's go" on the workout). I also say, LET ME FAST FORWARD, please.
I’ve had some success in solving this by signing out of my Apple ID on my Apple TV and then signing in again by holding my iPhone close to the Apple TV. This also disconnected and reconnected my Apple TV from HomeKit. The first workout I tried using Apple TV and AirPods Pro did disconnect about halfway through, but the others I’ve done since have completed just fine. I think this may have solved the issue for me.
It has disconnected from my Apple TV Gen 3 twice this morning. I did have both my Apple Watch and AirPods Pro connected to Bluetooth which others have noticed have contributed to the disconnections so I tried connecting the Apple TV to another Bluetooth speaker, namely, a Google Nest wifi point located about 4 feet away from the Apple TV.
Got through a 30 minute spin class no issue!! Fingers crossed, but it does seem the AirPods Pro Bluetooth may be the issue.
I’ve been able to recover from this a couple times, but it takes noticing that my heart rate isn’t registering on, in my case, the Apple TV. I then try pausing the workout from my watch (mine is a 6) and on the Apple TV, then getting my watch right next to the Apple TV. Then I resume - pause a few times until they get back together.
It does mean you have to remember to check the heart rate regularly, and is certainly disruptive, but a whole lot better than the dropped workout. Hopefully this works for you too!
This happened to me, today, 15 minutes into a 30 minute yoga session. There were NO AirPods or NO AppleTV involved, just my iPhone 6s. I haven't had this in a few months. I use this set up daily and it's just so random. Very annoying, but still so random.
Reading your responses helped to narrow down the issue: when AppleTV is connected to two bluetooth devices (Apple watch and AirPods) it cuts out frequently!
This persists. It is an Apple Bug!!! Fix it!
Thanks for telling me. How on earth did Apple not test for this? I was so cross and disappointed. Such a shame that something that looks so useful is useless.
My money is on Apple TV struggling to manage more than one Bluetooth connection. Apple is aware of the issue and likely trying to figure out how to manage multiple connections.
Just my observation.
Most likely the case.
