New iPhone 12 disabled

My son has a new iPhone 12 and today his Face ID and password were not working. He tried entering the password several times and the phone was disabled. It told him to connect to iTunes but after folllowing all of the steps to reset the phone it is still disabled.

You put the device in recovery mode and wipe the phone as outlined here If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support
