New AirPod max odor

Just received the new AirPod max earphones. When i opened the box there was a very strong chemical odor. Stubbornly i had to try them but had to take them off after listening to 2 songs. The chemical smell broke me out in a sweat and had me a little dehydrated leaving me with a metallic taste in my mouth. I am in communication with apple who think by cleaning them the odor might disappear. Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions on how to remedy? The sound quality as well as the noise cancelling i thought was excellent. Any help is much appreciated.
