Music listing on iPod Touch Music app

I've updated from an iPod Classic to an iPod Touch 6th gen - iOS 12.5 and am a little frustrated trying to get the music app listing to look the way I want.

I've manually uploaded some of my library (from my computer). Every song includes title, artist and album in the metadata. When I look at the "Songs" listing on the iPod, the songs are listed by title exactly the way I want them.

However, when I look at any other listing (eg "Genres/Favs"), it looks like the iPod displays a list of albums each in a file folder.

I'd like every listing to be a listing of songs not album/file folders. I've searched the options and the manual but can't find any way to make this change.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

iPod, iOS 12

Hi there dsscottage,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you're transferring over from an iPod Classic to an iPod Touch 6th generation, and you have a concern about how your music files are displaying. Let's see how we can help.

Did you create a Genres called Favs? It may be expected when tapping on any subcategory in Genres, it’ll show the album artwork rather than a list on your iPod Touch. Have you tried creating a playlist instead to see if that works better for your iPod Touch? Create, delete, and use playlists in iTunes on PC

We'd suggest trying to update the track information within iTunes itself, to see if that helps: Change song and CD information in Music on Mac or Change song and CD information in iTunes on PC

If you continue to experience this afterwards, please reach out to Apple Support directly, as they may be able to provide you a more guided support interaction to see if more help can be provided. You can use this link to connect: Get Support

Best regards.

Sharon_419,

Thank you for the assistance. The playlist displays and plays the songs the way I want.

However, a question because maybe I'm missing something. With the iPod classic, the genre listing displayed and played a list of songs without the necessity of the additional step of building a playlist. Instead, the "genre" listing on the iPod Touch displays the albums. I don't see the purpose in this design. It doesn't seem to serve any useful purpose. What am I missing?
