I dragged a folder with tons of files into the drive to free up space on my laptop and
therefore deleted the items and emptied my trash. Some of them were in the cloud. When I try to open the files in google they have weird names and I cannot open them. I need to retrieve these files asap.

It looks like you have moved some files from iCloud to Google Drive and deleted them from your laptop, however now they are not opening and the names are not correct. Having access to important files you have saved. We're happy to help.

If you had previously created a Time Machine backup you may restore files from that backup as well.
