I had the same problem today, but this is what Apple have said to do. I did it and it works now 👍
Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem - Apple Support
Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support
What we did is we deleted the existing printer and reloaded the printer again on to my MacPro, now it works fine. Just remember to reset your printer manually (turn off then on again). Now, it work ok with the new macOS Big Sur.
best of luck

Ok, this sounds extreme, but it's really not.
Delete your old Print Queue. It's not working anyway. Close the window.
Re-open the Add-A-Printer window and Create a new print queue.
Try to print something.
Any messages now?
any error messages?
No, that's what's driving me crazy it just pauses then won't print; I've even installed HPsmart, and it says connected.
