Keyboard and mouse will not operate on Powermac G4

I have been using a old POWERMAC G4 to run my business program. I had shut nit down and when I restarted the keyboard and mouse will not work tab all. I had a second G4 and it will not allow the keyboard or mouse to operate, either. I tried three different keyboards with both CPUs with the same results. I had been connecting my keyboard and mouse through a USB hub. The USB hub power light came on OK but will not operate the keyboard or mouse. I tried connecting the keyboard and mouse directly to the ports on the rear of the CPU with no luck, either. Does anyone have an idea of what is happening?

A friend suggested these things to try; should make some headway..

• Earlier G3, G4, G5 models...? SMU/PMU

(some older links have depreciated info & fail now)

PRAM/NVRAM reset (still works for older mac)

Should your PRAM clock battery be doubtful

be careful with resetting PRAM. (These go flat.)

Some startup issues may be due to this battery.

and…

See if this can help for power management reset:

• How to reset the SMU/PMU on a Power Mac G4/G5 (Late 2004) or Power Mac G5 (Late 2005)

1. Shut the machine down.

2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.

3. leave it for 10 minutes.

4. Connect back up and reboot.

Try reset (hold CMD +opt+P+R) on startup and wait to hear the second startup chime.

There may be some other bits online still. Have to go offline now.

The above link(s) are archives that may be helpful nonetheless.

Good luck & happy computing!
