I have an old model of dell 1707fpt. I have always successfully connected it to my Mac mini 2009, but failed to my new Mac mini m1.
I use the hdmi-to-DV-I cable.
The display has received the signal, but prompts: 'Cannot display This Video Mode. Optimum resolution 1280x1024 60Hz'.

I used a type-c to VGA converter, and this time the m1 machine can recognize dell 1707FP display.
I don't know the theory behind.

Thank you for your reply. But I think this is a bug of Big Sur.
My Mac mini 2009 has been updated to Catalina, while the Mac mini m1 uses Big Sur.
And I wander if there were some way to fix the video mode to '1280x1024 60Hz'.
With the new Macs you may no longer do this.
My Mac mini m1 can not recognize old dell display.
