I had a folder containing photographs on the desktop of my iMac. I opened it today and the folder was gone. But when I looked on the desktop of my Macbook Air, the folder was there. How did this happen, how do I get it back onto the desktop, and how can I keep this from happening again? Thanks for any information or advice out there!

Please restart the computer in Safe Mode and then restart normally and look to see if it's there. Also please use Finder to see if can see the folder and it's contents.
