sounds and haptics settings not working

I still get a chime when somebody text messages me! Very annoying. I want to be able to hear incoming calls, but not text sounds. I'm not sure why the settings adjustments are not 'taking' on the phone. please help. Here are all my settings:

Notifications >messages >sounds>'vibrate only'

notif>'lockscreen' is checked

notif>allow notifications is ON

Sounds and Haptics>vibrate on silent is ON; vibrate on ring is ON.

Sounds and haptics> sounds and vibration patterns> text tone> vibrate only >vibration = 'quick'; and 'alert tones'> none.

have I just tried too hard and I'm confusing the heck out of my phone?? How can I said it so that it will ring if I get a phone call but not get any text message sounds?

in sounds and haptics I have 'text tone' set to 'vibrate only' and 'alerts' set to 'none.'

iPhone 11 Pro

Hi, thanks, yes my software is up to date and I restarted multiple times.

I actually discovered the problem. It is that the person whose text chimes kept breaking through, had an 'assigned ring/tone.' Once I removed that, I didn't have any more problems.

We see that you're having some trouble adjusting settings for text tone. We'd be happy to provide some info that may help.

If you haven't already, could we please have you try restarting after changing settings and see if they persist? Restart your iPhone

Is your device full up to date? Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
