clean up by name - always
Is there a way to let the finder keep the desktop in a 'cleaned up by name' status. I'd prefer to have this as a default rather than by e.g. regularly using cmd+j and selecting by name?

Not as common a fix as it was, but still has its successes.

Hi, yes, that's what I though but it doesn't stick / take. I guess the finder window preference file has got damaged and needs replacing. Many thanks for your time and for the suggestion. It's been helpful to have my thinking confirmed.
Set the View Options to Sort by name.
