Shock from iPhone 12 Pro Max

The phone has a protective case, but occasionally I've needed to take it off to swap a SIM card. When I do I get a sharp shock from the lower left edge of the phone. It feel like an electrical shock, numbing the tip of my finger.

Has anyone else felt this or heard of anything like this? Is it a design problem, or a manufacturing problem? If the latter I'll return it.

Thanks very much for any guidance.

Do you live in a cold dryer climate? It sounds like static electricity, but since we can't diagnose anything from our couches, if you have any concern with your phone, schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show it to them.

By any chance are you on your phone a lot? I have the 12 pro and I’ve been getting shocked a lot. I’m pretty much on my phone all day for work and whenever I touch something new, I get shocked. This never happened before with my other iPhones. It’s getting pretty annoying. Found you guys, while looking to see if anyone else is having the same issue. I am glad I am not alone.
