cannot read SD card

I have a MacBook Pro M1 2020 Big Sur and I cannot see my SD card on finder when I mount it. It doesn't detect it under disk utilities either, and I don't get a message when I remove it.

I know it's not an issue with my SD card reader because the computer detects flash drives, and it's not the SD card either because my older 2019 pro detects it.

I've tried restarting my computer, and changing the general setting for finder too.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? How do I fix it?

Hi, sarrahhakimjee.

We appreciate you taking the time to post in the Apple Support Communities.

If we understand correctly, you have an SD card that works with your Intel-based Mac, but your new MacBook Pro with the M1 Chip isn’t showing the card in Finder. Let’s see if we can find out why:

First, are you using Apple’s USB-C to SD Card Reader to connect the card or another configuration? If it’s another configuration, details about your setup may help us find the reason it isn’t reading on your new MacBook.

Are you able to confirm that the card is mounted in Disk Utility?

Is your MacBook reading the connection in System Information?

These details will help us determine whether the issue is with the Finder UI reporting SD cards or with the actual connection/reading of the card.

Warmest Regards.

this is a known issue...bug that has been ignored since at least november of last year...I have seen solutions like resetting SMC of Mac and going through 2 pages of steps or viewing Disk Utility and renaming card, ejecting, and then re inserting...Obviously these are not real solutions for a bug in Big Sur which should recognize cards inserted in the Mac SD card slot/

Also my cards worked perfectly in my iMac in all previous versions including Catalina so it is a Big Sur bug.
