Photos are really blurred on opening then clear up after time.

This started about a month ago. When I open photos, my thumbnails look sharp, I click to open a photo and it opens and for a second or two is nice and sharp, as expected. After two seconds it changes to incredibly blurry. So bad, the picture is not recognizable. After about 15 seconds up to about 5 mins, the sharp image appears again. If I close the image and reopen it, it goes to straight to a sharp image and does not go blurry again. If I shut Photos down and reopen the image, it goes through the blurry step again. Incredibly frustrating. Also, Mac in general is VERY slow. Tried:

  • Virus checking....nothing
  • Repairing the boot disc....no effect.
  • Reinstalling Big Sur V 11.1...no effect

Haven't reinstalled Photo Library yet due to comments from others. Library has about 80K pictures.

Hi nottil,

We understand that thumbnail images in Photos are blurry intermittently, and we'd like to look into this with you.

In case you haven't seen it already, the "If you're having other issues with Photos" part of the following page has some information and steps that can help correct issues with the Photos app, including issues with thumbnails: Get help with the Photos app on your Mac

Since you also mentioned issues with your Mac running slowly, please go through these steps as well, and let us know if that helps: If your Mac runs slowly

Take care!
