Memory showing deleted apps still taking up space

I had several large games that I deleted, but they are still showing up when I go to About This Mac and check storage. I am not able to find or delete them. Can anyone help?

Hello Barbupanaitescu,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are still seeing some apps still showing in storage on your Mac even though you removed them. First, try running First Aid on your hard drive with the built in Disk Utility tool, as this can correct simple issues like you're experiencing.

How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log in to your user account, make sure the Trash is empty and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Cheers!

Hi-thanks for these suggestions. I tried the repair, then did the Safe Mode startup and even reinstalled Big Sur, to no avail. There are 80 gigs worth of Apps showing up, all games I deleted, and they can’t be found or accessed. I ran Omni Disc Sweeper and they don’t show up there; so I know they’re gone but the MacBook seems not to agree. I worry this will become a problem as storage fills up! Any other ideas?

thanks so much
