iphone 12 pro max battery health degrading

I got my new 128GB 12 Pro Max with blue silicon case on the 11/13 launch day. In the weeks since I’ve noticed the battery health has already dropped to 98%. I’ve only used public releases of iOS and haven’t installed any iOS beta’s that would have enabled extra logging functions that could have negatively impacted battery life and health. Optimized charging has been enabled the whole time, and it’s only been charged with a USB-A cable and an Apple 5W charger. I don’t see any apps standing out as battery hogs, and I’m using my phone as much as I did my 11 Pro Max. I’m shocked to see the battery health drop below 100% in the first 6 weeks, and at this rate it will be below 90% by summer 2021. Has anyone else noticed their battery health has dropped below 100% on a 12 Pro Max?

It has nothing to do with chronological time. It is “80% is normal after 500 full charge cycles”. A full charge cycle is from 0 to 100% (or combinations that add up to 100% such as 20% to 70% twice). And you should never let it go to 0% intentionally; that WILL shorten the capacity of the battery if it happens frequently. Ideally, charge it when it gets to 20%, and charge it overnight, every night, with Optimized charging enabled.

Me too. Bought my iPhone 12 Pro at launch and it's already down to 89% capacity. That seems like a lot of drop considering the phone is not even 9 months old yet. I expect around 10% drop around the 1 year mark. At this rate, I'll be below 85% by the one year anniversary.

Around 1% per month is normal, yours is a little low but not low enough to be out of the ordinary.

I struggled with the same problem since late march, dropped from 100 to 93 in 3months, the worst case was 1% drop in 1 week.

I saw drop on every saturday . I asked for remote check x 3times and went to apple genius bar for 3 times. All remote or on site diagnostic tool all yielded NORMAL except the last time. I met the manager in second time, I told him about the drop oh health in each week. He said that it was odd with 1% drop with 2-3 charge cycles and he suggested me to keep observe and tracking of health. He would find ways to solve this if I could show him evidence of continous drop in weeks. I went there for third time with further drop of 2% in 2 weeks, I showed him the screen shot of official native battery health page with date and coconut data for reference. They checked again and finally showed a yellow icon with something odd, I forgot the exact meaning, ?? something related to charge cycle or so. The manager finally replaced a new battery for me without paying. He also asked me to replace the motherboard at the same time in case of short circuit with battery leakage, but I didnt want to set up another new device again, so I replaced the battery at the moment.

the first shot is data of old battery, then second is data of new battery

Try to go and ask manager to take a look. Regular staff has no authority to replace battery >80% health without paying unless there is also motherboard problem.

Old battery default capacity was 2798, lower than spec claimed capacity of 2815 (correct me if I am wrong)

the new capacity is 2916 now, so far under monitoring

How about battery recalibration. I watched videos on YouTube that it may restore around 2% in your battery health?
Will this work?But,

Re-calibrating does not change your battery health. It only changes what your phone thinks the percentage is. It's as if your car had a full tank of gas but your gas gauge was stuck at 1/4. You get the gauge fixed and it correctly shows 1/2. But, the actual amount of gas is still the same.

There is absolutely no reason to be checking or worrying about your battery health unless 1) your phone is not working correctly or 2) you're close to the end of your warranty.

That’s about right. An iPhone with average use will lose about 1% of capacity per month. Batteries are consumables; they lose a little capacity every time they are discharged, then recharged. On average this works out to about a 1% loss for every 25 “full charge cycles” ( some will be a little more, others a little less). As one example, if you charge the phone overnight, every night (and that is what you should do; it is a best practice), it starts the day at 100%. If it drops to 20% by the end of the day before you charge it again overnight that counts as 0.8 full charge cycles (20% to 100%), or about 24 full charge cycles per month of use. For this example your battery capacity will lose about 1% per month. Of course, if the end-of-day level is higher than 20% the capacity loss will be a little less, and if it is lower than 20%, or you charge it during the day, the capacity loss will be higher.

The absolute best way to improve the life of your battery long term is to enable Optimized Battery Charging (Settings/Battery/Battery Health) and charge the device overnight, every night. The battery will fast charge to 80%, then pause. During the nighttime pause the phone will use mains power instead of battery power, allowing the battery to “rest”, and thus reducing the need to charge the battery quite as often. The phone will resume charging to reach 100% when you are ready to use your phone; it will “learn” your usage pattern. If you enable iCloud Backup (Settings/[your name]/iCloud - iCloud Backup) the phone will back up overnight also, assuring that you can never lose more than the current day’s updates.

This is definitely a long term issue as well. In recent times, I have been thinking my battery life has not been as long as when I first used my 512 gb iPhone 12 Pro Max. I checked my battery health today to find it was at 89%?? I found this thread soon after and the rate IS CONSISTENT. I’m not sure what the issue could be, I have had optimized charging enabled the whole time, and it’s only been charged with a USB-C cable and an Anker PowerPort III 36W charger. I’ve only used the public releases of iOS, and usually update within a week of a new release (still running iOS14.6). I’m not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my iPhone has lived its entire life in a Mous Limitless 3.0 case.

I’m really hoping this issue can be fixed with software, but I may have to use the limited hardware warranty to replace the battery when it’s around 84% battery health in November😞

Before updating to ios 14.7.1, my iphone 12 pro max after using it for 6 months is still 100% battery health. Immediately after the update, it dropped to 95% (in just 1 day). And now, continue to reduce it to 94%. The most confusing thing is that my phone uses very little, I only charge it once every 2 days, always turn on optimized battery charging, when the phone gets hot, I stop using it immediately and cool it down with a fan. With the same usage, my old iphone 11 pro max after 6 months of use is 99%. What the **** is going on???
