I do not get text message sound notifications when iPhone is locked

I do not get text message sound notifications when iPhone is locked, this was happening on my old iPhone 7 and I updated to an iPhone 12 pro 4 days ago and the same thing is happening. I looked at other threads with similar problems, but all of them said the apple watch was the problem. I do not have an apple watch. The only item linked via bluetooth is a pair of bose headphones. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

I was able to chat with an apple team member and they helped me solve my problem. They directed me to settings>privacy> motion & fitness> and then turn off "Fitness Tracking". It seems like I only wasn't receiving text message notifications when my phone was face down on a surface. "Fitness Tracking" when ON disables notifications when the phone is face down. Hopefully this helps other folks who experience the same problem!

Hi sunnyjordz,

We understand you do not get message notifications on iPhones. We're happy to help.

To get an audible alert for messages, there's a few things you'll want to check:

Make sure the iPhone is currently set to ring mode and not silent mode: How to put your iPhone on vibrate, ring, or silent mode

Make sure in Settings > Do Not Disturb, the Do Not Disturb option is turned off: Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Check in Settings > Sounds & Haptics to make sure you currently have the Ringer & Alert volume set to a level that you're able to hear.

Once you've checked these things, you can navigate to Settings > Notifications > Messages, and set a sound for message notifications.

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

We hope this helps. Cheers!
