Transparent Images

I’m hoping someone can help me out with this. I’m an artist who relies on my being able to import transparent images, and recently (for whatever reason) my PNG files haven’t been saving as transparent on my iPad or iPhone. I’ve checked the settings on my drawing app, and that wasn’t the issue. I went to google and saved random transparent images from there and they also had a filled in background.

I have my most recent problematic example here:

As shown in the image, the drawing has a white background, but the thumbnail (circled in red) shows it as transparent! So the image is SUPPOSED to be transparent, but for some reason isn’t showing up as such. I’ve tried copying/pasting the images, and emailing/texting it to myself, and they always show up white.

Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Or have any possible fixes?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities Jellibrooke,

We see that you're having an issue with your PNG files not saving as transparent on your iOS devices. We certainly understand your concern, and we'd be happy to provide you with some information regarding this issue that you've been having.

For performance reasons, your devices will display the PNGs as JPGs. This will show a colored background because the JPGs do not support Alpha Channels. If you open the PNG in Photos, then pinch to zoom in, the PNG will be displayed with the Alpha Channels and transparency.
