Using Siri to text

On an iPhone 7 is it possible to turn off Siri reading back the message before sending. This is not in CarPlay mode. It is my 86 year old FIL using talk to text and he doesn’t want to listen to Siri read it back; he just wants to send it.

how to let siri read text when locked? when my phone is locked and i get a text, siri can’t read the text unless i unlock my phone? that kinda defeats the “hands free” deal right? anyone know how to change that? when i get a text i’d like to ask siri to read it to me without unlocking. iphone 13 running ios 15

Check Settings > Siri &Search > Announce Messages.
