MacBook Pro (2017) screen goes black when I open it

when first opening my laptop, the screen looks normal, but gets progressively dimmer the more I open it, then goes completely black once it reaches about a 90 degree angle. The keyboard stays lit. I’ve found that opening my laptop slowly sometimes works, but if I accidentally bump it open more, it goes black, and if I’m playing a video, the sound stays playing. The only way I’ve been able to resolve this is by shutting the laptop completely and reopening it slowly. Is there any way I can fix this? Is it a mechanical problem? Or do I need to get a new laptop :(

The Mac’s System Management Controller (SMC) handles a lot of things related to power. Resetting the SMC will reset several different power settings. To reset the SMC, shut down your Mac and connect it to power if it isn’t already.

Hold down the Shift+Control+Option+Power buttons for a few seconds, all at once. Release them all at the same time and power the Mac back on to see if the black display is fixed.
