AirPod max won’t hold charge - even in the smart case, closed correctly

I’ve gone to use the headphones a couple of times and found them at 1 or 0% charge. Both times, they had been used for a short amount of time, and then carefully rehoused in the smart case. It was maybe 24 hours between putting in case and trying to use again.

I would expect based on the ultra low power mode that this would’t happen - my gut feeling is that they shouldn’t be less than 60% battery based on usage and storage.

I recently had to return my AirPod Max headphones for this issue. I charged them in two different ways. The first I left in the case, with the charge cable running into it as I'm sure you're suppose to do it. Disconnected the cable once at 100%. Came back to them the next day, 1%. I then decided to charge them to 100% outside the case. I placed them in the case, then checked my phone to ensure it was in the "low power" mode. They disconnected from my phone and I assumed all was good. I returned to them the next day, 26%. Better than leaving in the case, but still a huge power drain. Do you still own these headphones? Were you able to overcome the power drain? If so, how? Please and thank you for your reply.
