Airpods Pro 2nd gen case battery drain

Hello everyone, I have recently got AirPods pro 2nd generation and I believe I am experiencing case battery drain issues to some extent. I used the AirPods without ANC and listened to music for 2 hours and realized that the case dropped from 85% to 72% to charge the AirPods from 95% to 100%. With this pace, I can never reach the advertised 30 hours of play time even without ANC. Interestingly, it seems like the case is not losing much battery when it is in idle mode, so not being used. Is this normal behavior or do you think there is smt wrong with my AirPods?

I solved the problem, sort of! Go into the settings for the AirPods and turn off the “find my” setting. It doesn’t take affect immediately. It took about two days before my phone popped-up that it was still tracking my AirPods. I said do not track anymore and my battery is maintaining power as it should. If you have to track your AirPods then you may have to deal with the battery drain issue.

I had the battery drain issue but no longer have it. I still have “find my” and “notify when left behind” on. I charged my AirPods yesterday morning and they’ve just been sitting since and I’m still at 100%. The solution for me was draining the batteries in the case and AirPods completely then charging them. I waited for the case to no longer light up before charging. I tried everything else mentioned in this string and this was the only thing that worked. It seems to give the AirPods and case a hard reset. Unlike the iPhone there isn’t a way to just hit a few buttons in a certain sequence to trigger the hard reset.

Mine have been fine, what i have noticed is that sometimes one of the airpods dont set correctly in the case and it doesnt charge. It happens more than enough times. Its pretty annoying and that does keep the case draining faster. The way to find that out, is by pulling one airpod from the case and seeing the battery widget, it will then show you both airpods battery charge individually

I found a solution that fixed this issue for me. I was having a similar issue with the case for my AirPods Pro 2, but it didn’t start until I had the AirPods for about 2 months. I started getting the drain like everyone on this thread is describing. I tried various fixes but the only thing that worked for me was that I ran the case and AirPods totally dead and I left them that way for about 24 hours before charging. I then gave them a full charge and I no longer have the drain issue. This gave the AirPods and case the true reset they needed since there isn’t any other way to do it otherwise. Give this a try and see if it works for you.

So I finally did the following which seems to have stopped the battery drain and resolved the play sound case issue.

1) Forget AirPod pro 2 from iPhone Bluetooth

2) Reset AirPod Pro 2 by pressing button on case until the case light turns orange then white

3) reset network settings on iPhone

4) repair the AirPod Pro 2 to the iPhone.

Now the battery drain has stopped, find my works, and play sound on case works.

It’s definitely a software bug. But hopefully this will work for you.

I also noticed that, seems there is a bug draining the case. I think I found a temporary fix while Apple fixes the problem for good. The problem is the find me app, on your airpods in the find me app, turn off "Notify Me When Left Behind" that seemed to fix the battery drain meanwhile apple fixes the issue. I hate to have a fix by eliminating or turning off a function. But for now I rather not lose 15% battery on tue case everyday without even using the airpods

Actually the problem is not the whole find my function, though it works how you explain, you are eliminating the whole find my function which like you said, its something we want to have working at all times. I discovered its only the "Notify me when left behind" setting in the find my app, I turnes it off and it solved the issue and my find my still works, it just wont notify me when I leave them behind somewhere, which again, its NOT a real fix but at least you have most of the functions working. Still, Apple need to fix this ASAP

its just a glitch on the new update, reset your airpods and forget them on your phone. Then do a whole new pairing, once paired, on your find my app, go into "devices" tap on your airpods and on that screen where it shows the "play sound, find and notifications" there is a "notify me when left behind" under notifications, turn that off for a bit then turn it back on, your case should be fine after that. It worked for me

This is a huge issue and I suspect Apple now knows it. I have first gen AirPods Pro and 2nd gen. If I charge both to 100% and leave them in a drawer, the first gen will remain at 100% for weeks, If not months. The 2nd gen lose 20% over a few days and keep dropping.

I spoke to Apple support and kept asking them for some documentation about what the standby time should be on the 2nd gen and they couldn’t refer me to anything but the pages that say you should get 30 hours of talk time.

I argued that it’s not 30 hours of talk time if you wait a week to start talking and this is a huge problem for people like me who don’t use them every day and don’t expect to charge them until they’ve used them for 30 hours.

Multiple phone and chat support assistants were useless and I eventually got a Genius Bar appointment where they swapped them there and then. I suspect they know there are issues.

I immediately charged the brand new ones to 100% and left them. The first 2 days they showed 100% when I checked and I thought I was in the clear. The next day they showed 78%.

So here’s how I finally fixed it on my AirPods. I did turn off “show in find my”. After that, I kept my AirPods in the case, turned off ear detection, and played music until both the case, and the AirPods were completely out of battery. The case would no longer light up. It took a while for that case to no longer light up. I let them rest for about a half an hour. I charged everything back up. It’s been three days. I’ve lost 2% of the battery. So far I’m going to say that’s a fix. I’ll follow up if it’s no longer a solution. This is the longest I’ve ever had them running with the least amount of loss. I also used them for about 15 minutes so some of that loss is based on the recharge.

First forget the device then press the back button on the case till it turns red/orange, thats a complete reset and hopefully that fixes the problem. Yes most definitely helps fixing bugs, specially after a firmware update that is meant to fix bugs that hace been there. Sometimes the bugs stay in cache and a hard reset will start the new firmware fresh.

No. This is not normal behavior.

Troubleshooting AirPods Battery Draining:

A. A Few Links to Visit:

B. Try the Following Tasks:

  • Hold Down the Button on the case for about 15 seconds.

  • Use an Apple Brand Cable - not a third party one - cool though it may look, a fabric, third-part cable would likely tear - (Apple cable's are plastic and are intended for Apple)

  • Remove the AirPod from the Case, then place it back in the charger. Perhaps it need to resync with he charger.
