Error connecting to the AppleID server

MyiPad2Air unexpectedly simply stopped being able to send or receive email or connecting to any site, a few weeks ago. Each time I try to get emailon the iPad, I get the message "Cannot get Mail. The connection to the server failed".

I have no trouble getting emails, sending them, connecting to other sites with my iMac computer or my iPhone SE.

The iPad shows only 1 bar of connection, when there could be 4, and there used to be 3 or 4 regularly.

I tried using my iPhoneSE as a hot spot for the iPad but this made no difference to the amount of connection ability it had, nor did it give me any access to emails other than the ones which came in before it stopped working.

When I check on my iMac settings, it lists the iPad2Air as one of my devices and notes that it is a trusted device, so clearly it is still current in my iCloud account.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might fix this issue?

Hi Eric, the problem is solved. I tried a number of your suggestions but none helped. The problem was that my VPN had run out of money, but the VPN was still blocking access to the internet. So it was going round in circles. We found a way to turn off the VPN and then we were able to trace the problem, and fix it. Thanks for your help, it really did make a difference to the approach we took.

Some things you can try. Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.

Try a restart.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Try a forced restart.

Reset Device.

If necessary

Hard reset.

Do a backup and try a factory reset. Then restore from your backup.

Restore to Factory setting.

Backup - Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.

Connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in IOS.
