Safe Mode not working

I tried starting it up with Command + P + R, I get the Bing sound like it's starting up, then the screen goes all white. Tried unplugging it and it still does the same. I also tried Command and R as someone suggested, but I get the same results. All of this happened when I kept getting the message that I needed to upgrade, so I did. Any suggestions?
