I'm running Catalina 10.15.7 and this problem has occurred overnight. Very frustrating trying to locate image files now as now previews are displayed (including for files that previously showed a preview, not just newly created ones). I've been through all the troubleshooting advice and wonder if something has caused this in the latest macOS update?

Did you try rebooting your machine...(?)
Aha! I meant to do that and then let myself get distracted. All good now :)
