Double tapping Home Button

I have an iPhone 6 with software version at 12.5 . I am having trouble accessing recent apps in this one. Whenever I double tap on home button, if I have reachability enabled then the top bar pulls down or if reachability is deactivated then nothing happens. I just cannot get the device to show recent apps. I am coming from android and using this iPhone as a spare phone and as a tester if I could move to an iOS phone. Can somebody please help me out to get the recent apps enabled in home button

Try a double-click instead of a double-tap.

Personally, for the exact reason you specify, I don't use the double-click to switch between Apps. I just close the current App, and open the next App on the Home Screen.

Any "injections" to get iOS 13 on an iPhone 6 are "hogwash."

Thank you ...it solved it..finally .. but will the home button survive this many clicks? Also if possible can you advise me if the numerous videos stating injections of some kind to make the device get iOS 13 are legit or not?

Thank you so much. I am discovering iOS and you been a great help. Also anyway to make the the sound while taking pics without muting the whole phone?
