Magic Keyboard trackpad pointer disappeared and also my iPad Air won’t turn off

Hi, I bought this iPad Air about 4 weeks ago, with the magic keyboard and just this morning the trackpad pointer started glitching out and then it completely disappeared. A prior thread says to restart iPad... but I cannot figure out how to do that on this iPad Air... I’ve held the volume button down all the way as well as held the big button at the top... neither will turn off the iPad. Also.. the trackpad thing seems to be a problem that others are having... is this a hardware defect? I’m so disappointed.
