How do I restore the Calendar app to my Home Screen?

Thanks, Apple. You have made it wonderfully easy to delete icons from the Home Screen and almost impossible to put them back. Specifically, I am talking about the Calendar icon, which literally thousands of people have already asked about over the years. In my case, it was presumably done accidentally by holding my thumb down on the Home Screen and pressing the minus symbol on the Calendar icon. It seems to have happened so quickly that I was completely unaware of it.

I have tried the following to restore it:

0. Looking for it in all my folders. Nope, nowhere.

1. Looking for it using Spotlight Search. Yup, it’s there! But it’s not in any folder according to Spotlight Search. And it’s also not on any of my Home Screens. When I hold my thumb on the icon, the only option I get is “Add Event” (no “Add to Home Screen”).

2. Looking for it on the App Store. Yup, it’s there too! But my only options are “Open” (because obviously it’s already on my phone) or send it to someone.

3. Holding my thumb on the Home Screen, clicking the plus symbol, and adding a Calendar “Widget”. This creates a Calendar box that is four times the area of all the other icons. Awesome! But no thanks.

4. Telling Siri to "put Calendar on Home Screen". Dumb as a rock.

5. Restarting my phone. When all else fails…

I have *not* tried Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout, because I don’t want to reset my Home Screen layout. I just want that icon back. Is that seriously my only option?

Well. Before it will be removed you are actually being asked if you are sure you want to remove the app. So it means you did confirm the action by tapping yes on that prompt. So instead of blaming Apple you should blame yourself.

From what you have described it sounds as you have removed app from Home Screen but not from the device. Go to the App Library from where you can drag and drop Calendar app icon to your Home Screen.

Are you sure you swipe left (from right edge of the screen to left) cause what you have described it sounds as Today’s view screen which you do access by swipe right (from left edge to right) on Home Screen or Search screen (aka spotlight search) which you access by swipe down from centre of screen on Home Screen. In that search bar does it say App Library? If not, you are not in the right place.

Your alternative option is to go to Settings - General - iPhone Storage, look for Calendar and tap on Delete App, then install it again via the App Store. When/if you do this this way, when Calendar app is back you need to go to Settings - Calendar - Accounts to re-enable Calendar on each account you use with the app.

...and thank you for the lecture.

I have iOS 14.3, but when I swipe left from the Home Screen, it doesn't look like the picture in that article. The box at the top says "Search", not "App Library", and the bubbles below it contain things like podcast suggestions, weather conditions, tips, and battery life, rather than groupings of apps. I can certainly locate the Calendar app by searching, but when I hold my thumb there, the only option that comes up is "Add Event".
