Shuffle doesn't work on Mac

Shuffle button on Music on my Mac doesn't work. It looks like it activates, but it does not start a series of songs. I can only play individual songs from the Playlist. When playing the same Playlists on my iPhone or iPad, shuffle works grea.Suggestions??

They are not checked.

OK, that is why it is not shuffling!

Command-A and check any empty checkbox will check all the ones in the view.

Hank,

If it only plays one song and then stops, that usually means that your songs have come unchecked. To resolve: Set your library for View > As Songs. If you don't see the checkboxes, go to Preferences > General, and enable "Show -- Songs list checkboxes."

One more thing, if your Mac is in Dark Mode, you need to switch temporarily to regular mode. Then... make sure the songs are all checked.

I was in the wrong preferences - switched to Music preferences, which had this type of screen. Was somewhat different as it had more options.

But, I'm still not getting shuffle to work. When I go to a playlist or album and hit shuffle, it either doesn't work at all or goes to the first song in the list, plays it and then stops. As I mentioned, there are a couple of playlists and albums on which shuffle does work, but those a just a few.

Appreciate all you trying to help. Is it possible the Music is corrupted. Can it be reinstalled?

This problem only started when I installed Big Sur.

Thanks - Hank
