I have this problem yet again, that I know others have had. I have fixed it before but can't remeber how. I have tried changing the permissions on the external RAID to Everyone can Read and Write but that is denied - any help please?
Restart your mac, and also delete FCP preferences. To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences. The application will start in a default state, and open an "Untitled" library. Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.

Also, just in case: Final Cut Pro needs to have "Full Disk Access" in System Preferences->Security & Privacy->Privacy:
Hi again - still waiting for the Pegasus RAID's disk array to rebuild - but have tried opening a backup of the FCP library that's on a different external drive - and that opens fine. Doesn't that indicate it's a permissions issue on the RAID, not in FCP?

It could be.
OK thanks - FCP does have full access; I'm waiting for the RAID's disk array to rebuild as I also replaced a drive, will try your suggestion after.
