Message indicator "complication" on watch face

The "Complication" indicates I have >20 unread messages. However I have read them. The phone knows this.

1) Why is the watch not synchronized with the phone?

2) How can I clear the indicator on the watch without deleting the 20+ messages the watch thinks I haven't read yet? As of now the only way I can see to do this is to tediously delete them one at a time.

Thanks.

Hello mike8877,

We understand you are having an issue with the Messages app on your Apple Watch still showing notifications after viewing the messages on the iPhone. We'd love to help. Does restarting the watch using the steps here: How to restart your Apple Watch resolve the issue?

Also, if you go on the paired iPhone to the Apple Watch app, then choose Messages, do you have the option 'mirror my iPhone' selected?

Take care!

Hey mike8877,

Thanks for the info. If you have not already done so, let's restart the phone as well using the steps here: Restart your iPhone

Also, let's check both devices for available software updates in Settings > General > Software Update. If it shows an update available, please process the updates using the steps below.

Update your Apple Watch

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Best regards

Hi mike8877,

Thanks for the additional information. Next, we'd recommend unpairing the Apple Watch from the phone using the steps here: Unpair and erase your Apple Watch and pairing it back by completing the steps here: Set up your Apple Watch.

If those steps do not resolve the issue, then please reach out to our support team for further assistance here: Get Support

Have a great day!

Thanks for the suggestions but already tried them.

I had already checked for updates ( none available) and restarted on both devices before I posted. Restarting clears the problem but it comes right back some time later. I shouldn’t have to restart these things once a day.

Seems the actions taken on the phone don’t propagate to the watch reliably. I have not experimented enough to provide any kind of reproduction steps.
