Kernel Panic - DSMOS - SMC... so confused...

I am at a loss here.

First off, I'm on a Macbook Pro 15" (non-retina) mid-2012 running Mac OS X Sierra (10.12.6). I've had this problem for about a month now, so I have tried multiple NVRAM resets, SMC resets, I have even wiped the hard drive clean and did a reinstall of Mac OS.

Out of the blue, I started getting kernel panics and subsequent computer shutdowns, but also random weird behavior such as the computer shutting down... sort of. It's like it wants to restart but doesn't. Nothing on the screen (not even the backlight), but then the keyboard stays lit up. Then I hear the optical drive make the same noise as on startup, but no Apple "dong" sound... and then nothing.

Sometimes I either have to reset the SMC to get it to shut down, sometimes I just hold the power button for a few seconds... sometimes I have to do both.

For whatever reason, when I load the OS in Safe boot mode, the computer does not shut down by itself. And it will stay on as if nothing is wrong as long as I want. The minute I restart and try to boot the OS in regular mode or recovery mode, the screen goes black and does the optical drive noise as described above.

I'm usually pretty good with figuring things out with computers, but this one has got me pulling out my hair.

I have included the console log system report for the Kernel panic that I continually get at random:

Please advise!

Perhaps the drive is failing as mentioned and a replacement will help.

Interesting Method of installing but Apple is very very picky regarding the method of installation. Since the Bootable installer is already made, suggest connecting the Installer Drive directly to Targeted computer and installing that way rather than via a USB tethering method. May find the " Don't Steal MacOS " kernel panic error will not occur.

The version of Sierra was downloaded from the Apple website, put into a bootable USB stick, and loaded from another Macbook Pro that I have by thethering the existing hard drive via USB.

Also, I have noticed that the install has failed to install a recovery partition in the hard drive. Possible hard drive failure so tomorrow I am planing on switching out the hard drive for a brand new SSD. Maybe this will help.

The problem is that when i tried to install on the Mac in question, the installation would not complete properly. The computer would randomly shut down for some unknown reason, leaving the installasion of the OS somewhere in mid process. So to be able to complete the installation, i had to resort to this method, given that my other MBP is more recent, running Catalina and thus not allowing me to run the install from the computer directly because it gave me a message that said something along the lines of “This Mac is already running a newer version of Mac OS”, making it impossible to install even on another hard drive

I can't even get to the inside the installer because the computer freezes on startup to get to that point. The progress bar will load anywhere from 20% to 40%, then stop and nothing happens. On occasion, I will get a bunch of gibberish appear on the screen which looks like this (see added picture) and then the screen goes black. Otherwise, I get the progress bar that doesn't move and then nothing happens.

With the USB Installer directly attached to intended computer and shutdown said computer. Disconnect all Other USB drives. Connect to charger and then start the computer and immediately hold the Option key. This should present the Boot Manager and choose to boot from the Sierra Installer. Once in get to Disk Utilities >> View >> View All connected devices. On Left side look for the Upper Most Drive by name ( WD of OWC or whatever ) SSD. In the Tools choose Partition and choose Single Partition >> Erase and choose HFS Journaled and below Scheme: GUID Partition Map >> Give the drive the name Macintosh HD and Erase.

Back out of Disk Utilities and choose Install macOS. Follow the prompts until the Setup Assist appears
