External hard drive not shown in Finder

Finder setting in Finder Window "Locations" needed to be changed from Hide to Show. Fixed the problem.

OS Ventura Spotlight show files with finder Icon and don't open its I'm using a new Mac book air M2 with Ventura. I transferred my previous mac book pro. When I search with spotlight i see the file i'm looking for, but it's showed with a finder Icon and i cannot open directly, i must chose search with finder and find it again in all the similar files. new folder not empty when created when I open new folder it creates a folder on desktop with the folder as a subfolder, before when I created a new folder on desktop all the desktop was in the folder, I cleared desktop, restarted computer and put 1 item on desktop, a new folder is chosen on menu not "new folder with selection". every new folder created has whatever is on desktop. tried all finder preferences and no luck. please assist as can't organise anything and duplicates every desktop file makes issues. Thanks in advance

Google Drive indexing and Spotlight search in Big Sur Hi there, That Spotlight isn't indexing the files on Google Drive in Monterey is a well know problem, and therefore I sticked to Big Sur, with which it was working. It looks, however, that it stopped working under Big Sur, too, since couple of days. Anyone can confirm? Has a final solution been found eventually?

Thanks for providing your solution. However, it would be helpful if you provided a bit more detail on exactly what the problem was, including the make & model of your external drive. All we know is that you were not able to access it initially with the Finder app.
