keyboard Backlight Not Functioning

I noticed my Keyboard doesn't have backlight after updating to MacOS BigSur. I am Using Macbook Air 2019.

Also, after updating to MacOS BigSur, there is no Keyboard backlight in setting and the keyboard backlight shorcut key is not functioning.

Anyone experience the same problem? Can anyone please explain?

Hello AddyJoL,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having an issue with your MacBook Air keyboard backlight not working after the update. We're happy to help.

We recommend completing an SMC reset to help. You can find the article here: How to reset the SMC of your Mac

In the "About the SMC" section in the article below, you can see:

"The system management controller is responsible for managing behaviors related to these features:

  • Power, including the power button and power to the USB ports
  • Battery and charging
  • Fans and other thermal-management features
  • Indicators or sensors such as status indicator lights (sleep status, battery charging status, and others), the sudden motion sensor, the ambient light sensor, and keyboard backlighting
  • Behavior when opening and closing the lid of a notebook computer"

Best!

Hello AddyJoL,

Thanks for the information and screenshots.

When checking you system settings are you showing the option to 'Automatically turn backlighting off after a period of inactivity' is enabled? The guide here can show you were to look as well as a few other locations to check: Turn your Mac keyboard’s backlighting on or off

If the issue remains, check booting to safe mode and test: Start up your Mac in safe mode

We'd also recommend testing the issue in a new user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Cheers!
